Botulinum Toxin (also known as Botox®)  is a simple, non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines, it can really make a difference, especially when used by a doctor who knows just how to get the best out of this unique product.

Botox® is a purified nerve-blocking agent manufactured by Allergan Pharmaceuticals used to treat overactive facial and eye muscles. The original form of the medication is naturally synthesized from the bacterium Clostridium. The medicine was developed in the late 1970s and has been used clinically since the early 1980s with minimal local side effects. Botox® works by blocking nerve transmission to specific muscles, putting those muscles to rest for up to six months. This produces a smoothing of the skin and loss of involuntary wrinkles; especially frown lines, crows feet, and horizontal forehead wrinkles.

Treatment of cosmetically noticeable wrinkles with Botox® has become extremely popular in the United States in recent years, and is now becoming more widely used in the UK. Patients find the relatively long effect, smoother skin surface, fewer injections, and lower cost to be more appealing than collagen, fat, or other injections or treatments. Ninety-five percent of our patients who receive Botox® elect to return for follow-up treatments because of their satisfaction with the results. Patients may resume their normal activities, exercise, and diet within fifteen minutes.

Anyone who has deep frown lines in any area of their face will often respond well to this treatment, men or women.

Botox® can also benefit anyone with excessively sweaty armpits or hands.

The cost of treatment varies depending on the amount of medication used. For most face procedures the cost is £250 to £300.

Botox® is very expensive to produce and requires considerable expertise to get the best results.

Generally speaking Botulinum is used for treatments above the eye line and Dermal Fillers are used for treatments below the eye line.

Information about Dermal Fillers

At Maidstone Electrolysis and Laser Clinic we use a variety of dermal fillers to inject into the dermis of the skin as a safe and effective way of reducing lines and wrinkles. However almost all of the treatments which we provide use the well known, tried & tested Restylane® filler. Below we give some background information about this treatment.

There are various specific areas of the face that are particularly prone to the effects of wrinkling and lines. Each area can be given treatment by the dermal fillers used by our clinic practitioners. The chart below shows the common areas that can be treated in this way.

Q. WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

A. The most common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips but also other sites can be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct. Please consult your physician for a judgment.

Q. WHAT IS TREATMENT WITH RESTYLANE® LIKE?

A. A Restylane® treatment is a very easy and quick process. Since no pre-testing is needed, the treatment can be made immediately and it takes about 30 minutes. The result is instant. Restylane® is injected with a very thin needle under the skin.

Q. IS IT DANGEROUS?

A. Restylane® is a safe product. Since hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, the skin does not react to the material.

Q. HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK WITHOUT "TOUCH UP" TREATMENTS?

A. The correction will gradually disappear until your skin looks like it did before the treatment. Touch up injections will help you maintain your correction.
