HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK ON MY SKIN?


Salicylic Acid, a Beta-Hydroxy Acid, is a highly effective superficial peeling agent and pore cleanser.

Salicylic Acid loosens and removes aging cells, oil and debris attached to the skin surface. It stimulates

new skin cell production and increased collagen formation.

As Salicylic Acid is oil-soluble and lipophilic, it penetrates sebum filled follicles and cleans out clogged

pores, resulting in marked improvement in acne prone skin.

Regular use of Salicylic Acid will also result in a decrease in fine lines, a smoother skin, more even

pigmentation and a reduction in pore size.



What happens during the treatment?


After cleansing and prepping the area to be treated, salicylic acid is applied to the area and allowed to remain for up to five minutes, we carry out this three times and the client should feel mild tingling. The acid self neutralizes and the therapist will apply balm to calm the skin.  We advise clients not to wash the area for at least 5 hours.  There is no downtime but you may appear flushed for 15-30 minutes after the treatment. This treatment should not be performed if you have taken Accutane within the past twelve months or if you are sensitive or allergic to aspirin. You should avoid the use of RetinA, Renova, or glycolic acids within one day before or after the treatment.



WHAT IS SALICYLIC ACID?


Salicylic Acid is a naturally occurring organic acid. A form of it was originally discovered by American Indians in the bark and leaves of certain trees. That particular form of salicylic acid was acetyl salicylic acid. It was known and passed down for generations that when that bark was chewed, headaches or other inflammatory processes actually became improved. We know acetyl salicylic acid today as the drug aspirin.
